May 2011 - THIS week's PICTURE

Tom x 6 on the Rocks, Blue Ridge Mountains, VA: Joiner photograph by Malcolm Aslett

vSome think it uncool to repeat figures as it appears too obvious but for me it is about other things - besides time and movement and form the same person is a different character in each pose. Faces and bodies, though they are the same person are essentially different in ways we are gifted at ignoring. It's a 'people dynamic'. For instance, how often does a photograph of you look like you? So how does that work? How come a photograph makes us a stranger to ourself? Clearly, when we think of what we 'look' like we are working from a purposefully limited palette. Fortunately (for me)the boy doesn't get to edit that the way a grown up tries to for their own ill considered reasons.
